TPC completed a major remodel of a nearly 100-year-old building in San Francisco’s Mission District, transforming it into a 5,300 SF Mazda showroom and a 4,400 SF Volkswagen showroom. The project included complete interior demolition, partial exterior demolition, and a second-floor addition for Mazda, featuring Mazda’s signature two-story jewel box with tile wall finishes and a vehicle display. Volkswagen’s renovation involved interior demolition, restoration of exposed ceiling bowstring trusses, and skylight additions. Both buildings received new brand-standard interior and exterior finishes, ACM metal paneling, entry portals and covered parking.
A solar array was installed for Mazda (11KW) and Volkswagen (30KW). The buildings, previously sharing utilities were updated with separate water, storm, sewer, and fire sprinkler services. Mazda received an electrical panel upgrade, while Volkswagen got a new 277/480V 800A electrical service, a pad-mounted transformer, and an underground PG&E switch. Seamless integration of modern designs with historical features was achieved despite limited working space.
